PIPA and SOPA
Remember two years ago that one day when at the top of your
screen on Google it said, “Tell Congress: Please don’t censor the web.” Well
that was because of the two bills PIPA and SOPA. What they are is the Stop
Online Piracy Act and the Protect IP Act. When you here it there it doesn’t
sound so bad, but it actually is. The Government wanted control over the Internet.
They could look at something and if they didn’t like it they could censor it.
Then Hollywood heard about this and they wanted it because they said that it
would protect their “Intellectual Property”
“Opponents claimed that the
proposed legislation threatened free speech and innovation, and enabled law
enforcement to block access to entire internet
domains
due to infringing content posted on a single blog or webpage. They
expressed concerns that SOPA would bypass the "safe harbor"
protections from liability presently afforded to websites by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Some library
associations worried that the legislation's emphasis on stronger copyright
enforcement would expose libraries to prosecution. Other opponents declared
that requiring search engines to delete domain names violated the First Amendment and could begin a worldwide arms race of unprecedented Internet
censorship.”-

Google and Wikipedia weren’t the
only people mad about this Firefox turned dark and had raise awareness PIPA and
SOPA across the fox many people were furious that they couldn’t use the web
browsers or the internet so the law probably wasn’t goanna be passed.
When they wanted to pass the law Google and Wikipedia
were upset and they were shutting down their sites to raise awareness and vote
against it. If PIPA and SOPA were passed
then the Government would get so many complaints they might even have to arrest
some people. Many people say we need to pass this because it would stop piracy
but that’s not what it was. What it was is they wanted complete control over
the Internet so that if they felt it shouldn’t be on there it wouldn’t be
anymore.
CBS news says,
“Content groups
like the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), and business
representatives like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, argue that innovation and
jobs in content-creating industries are threatened by growing Internet piracy.
Overseas websites, they argue, are a safe haven for Internet pirates profiting
off their content. According to the Global Intellectual Property Center, which
is part of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, intellectual property-intensive
sectors employ more than 19 million people in the U.S. and create $7.7 trillion
in gross output. Foreign website operators currently outside the bounds of U.S.
law; SOPA and PIPA would help quell illegitimate Internet activity.” To read

Stopping
piracy isn’t always a bad thing because when you think about it no thoughts are
really original. Everything is based off something else that someone else has
thought of so next time you see the Google signs blacked out or Wikipedia dark
think twice before you shut them down.

Mac vs. Windows
For some people they would never touch a Mac for others it’s
the other way around. Mac and Windows have been battling it out for the top
spot. For me personally I can go both ways. I am going to show how both affect
your life.
1.Windows
is a lot more open to viruses, but mac is closed off so you don’t have to
download an anti virus program.
2. “Apple makes it simple
Microsoft makes it complicated.
Just
look at Snow Leopard ‐
you either buy an upgrade or the full software. With Windows 7, there are six
separate skis, and that doesn't count the OEM and upgrade versions. And that's
just one example”. -Power Max
3.
Windows is a gaming computer Mac is a work Computer. You can add a lot of upgrades to
PC’s and that will allow a lot of gaming mods and different things. You can’t
upgrade your mac and you can’t do a lot of games.
4. Mac comes with a lot more useful apps. Every
Mac comes with some very useful apps that don’t come on Windows. (Of course you
can easily download them for Windows but ubiquity of app distribution can make
or break a platform-Future Publishing.
5.Mac can share different files with
a couple clicks. With With mac you have airdrop that will down load a lot quicker than emailing on PC’s.
6. PC’s are Cheaper When
you look at it you can buy a great PC for $1000 or a mac book pro for $1200 and
there are a lot more features that you can use that extra money for.
7. Macs are simply faster Macs
are simply quicker to download and upload different things like social media to
your next school assignment.
8. PC’s don’t crash as much as Macs most
mac apps will crash on people some times its bad if you have options for when
your apps crash.
9- Build your own computer
Macs are like Happy Meals: there’s a shiny menu to
choose from, but very little real variety on offer. The open architecture of
the PC platform, on the other hand, means you can build your own PC from the
ground up (or pay someone to do it for you). With your own choice of case, CPU,
monitor and other components, you might even end up with a system designed for
your personal workspace, rather than for a penthouse condo on the expensive
side of town. -Next media
10. 1. Macs are more reliable than PCs
because Apple makes both hardware and software
Apple is the only company in the PC business
that writes its own operating system and designs its own hardware. As a result
you get a fully integrated system and everything works together seamlessly. The
latest version of Apple's operating system, OS X Mavericks demonstrates how Apple is able to
get the most out of the hardware it uses by building new tools into the
operating system. These technologies combine with the hardware for the best
possible performance. For example, technologies like Power Nap mean that your
Mac can update itself even while the hardware sleeps. Apple is also
able to get more battery life out of the portable Macs due to power-saving
features that are built into the operating system. -Karen Haslem
